Brown Trout (Salmo trutta)
In this link we have a treat for you, the Brown Trout. This hansome trout was introduced to us from Europe and is a very hearty fish. At Trout-Fishing-Basics.com, I think the Browns as the juggernaut of all trout. Due to its ability to adapt to all sorts of conditions. Some people believe that the browns can survive for sometime in raw sewage. Do not forget Trout Lures psge will soon be making it's debut, which will make trout fishing for Browns and breeze!

APPEARANCE Brown trout have a overall light brown body with the sides giving off a brown greenish tinge with red dots, dark spots and pale halos, with dark spots on the dorsal fin that fade towards the tail. Body wise it is built with a very similar build to the Brook trout, they both have a streamlined body and a squared off tail.
PREY As browns mature in life they will tend to change what they eat. Starting with air, and aquatic insects. Adults will mainly feed at dusk and into the night, eating insects, frogs, worms and other fish smaller than them. Browns tent to be on the predatory side. Nothing, it seems, is safe from their appetite!
PREDATORS Even though they are a very cautious fish, the browns have many enemies. Here are just a few; bears, loons, mink, pike, lake trout, coyotes, eagles, kingfishers, and humans. They sound like they are as tasty as brook trout!
HABITAT Despite all the similarities to a brook trout, the browns can live in warmer, slower waters than other trout, and still remain active. They are at home in larger rivers, reservoirs and lakes with temperatures ranging from 65 to 70 degrees.
SPAWN Browns will mature in as little as two years. In the late fall they will spawn, with the female doing most of the work digging out a redd at the bottom of a stream. The male and female do the dance that mother nature taught them. The female laying eggs, and the male fertilizing them with his milt.
