Fishing Line
Going back to our friends the Egyptians had used fishing line which was braided out of silk or horse hair and then was tied on to end of a stick or a fishing pole. As time went on into the mid 1800's line was made of silk or linen and sometimes with a waterproof coating built in by the manufacturer.

Today line is made by a wide range of artificial materials depending on what type of equipment that you are using, whether it be for a close faced reel set up or a open faced reel set up.The old favorite line was monofilament line, which was very visible to trout while trout fishing. Then came other materials like which made flurocarbon line which has the ability to blend very well with water making it less visible to trout. More recently manufacturers have come up and out with what they call superlines. Superlines are noted for their small diameter and maximum strength as compared to conventional lines due to their micro braiding technology. As a beginner I would still use a flurocarbon line to learn how to go trout fishing on, and then to the braided lines. Happy trout fishing!
