Ice Fishing

Ice fishing on a sharp December morning as sat staring down the hole that I just recently drilled in the ice, listening to the ice flexing and contacting, making sounds which reminds of eerie sounds that whales make. And this got me thinking of how I can make fishing for trout somewhat easier for a beginner learning the basics of trout fishing through the ice.

Fishing Gear at Basspro.com

The first thing you will need is a nice thick layer of ice at minimum of 8 inches to walk on and 16 - 20 inches of ice to drive on, driving no more than 30 mph. Driving any faster you run the risk of creating a wake that will cause the ice to buckle in front and you and vehicle will go for and ride to the bottom of the lake.

Under any circumstances never drill or drive on moving water, like a river or stream. The is ice is way to inconsistent. This is just a big no no!!!

Next get organized, which means a checklist. Which I have made for you into a couple categories Must Have’s, and Secondary items, that will help you get on your way to an awesome trout fishing adventure and anytime add anything you think is essential. For our
