About the Author.

Howdy,

My name is Joe and I am the Webmaster of Trout Fishing Basics.com, and I would like to share some information with you about myself in this about the author page, but just briefly though. There is more important things you will want to learn in this website.

I was born and raised Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Which is a province that is on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains has a lot of rivers, streams and lakes. It really works out great in that I can be trout fishing in 20 minutes or so, or within a hour for 3-4 day, or ever a week long trout fishing adventure!

I was about 5 years old when I first went fishing and caught my first trout. It was one of those deals where I was sent by my mom on a "guys only" fishing trip and my Dad got stuck with me.

That weekend I caught my first Cutthroat Trout and still remember how happy and excited I felt that day. You see, as I had absolutely no clue how to properly land a trout and being fairly young most of the trout I managed to hook, got away!!

After that, as I got older, any weekend my Dad could spare away from his business we were "Gone Fishing". I was eight years old and relentless about going trout fishing. At that age... You guessed it, I could land my very own trout.

It was truly one of those things I could do well at that age, impressing my Dad, Uncles and family, friends with my ability to catch trout. Back then I was catching these trout with a very high tech rig called a hook and worm, with a split shot weight set about 7 inches above the hook.

Those were the days...

I was on top of the world fishing for trout that way. Mindless- yes, simple- yes, but extremely satisfying. Then as I got older things began to change and where I am from the "Feds" banned the use of live bait in most rivers and streams!

Next thing you know, along came Spinners and Spoons and whole new industry for me. Goodbye live bait!! None the less, again I taught myself to adapt and continue to pull in trout, increasing my love for the sport of trout fishing.

In this website I hope you come to have the same passion that I have for trout fishing. To help you get started on your own adventure, here is my favorite the Brook Trout.

Do not forget these other trout fishing favorites like the Brown Trout, Bull Trout, Lake Trout, and the Rainbow Trout.

Thank-you for visiting!

Joe Larsen.

Webmaster.
